Helping With Folkestone Homeless Xmas Dinner

We were delighted to be able to help one of our friends of the charity with the Christmas Dinner for Fokestone Homeless.

Pam Jones, recently acknowledged as one of the BBC One Show Christmas Angels, organises and feeds the homeless of Folkestone twice a week out of the Salvation Army Centre on Canterbury Road. This year 50 homeless people and helpers were greeted to a lovely Christmas Dinner on Monday 23rd December. The lady Mayoress of Folkestone joined in to help the Salvation Army team who were welcomed by a lovely dinner setting. They also had many boxes of presents supplied by the Folkestone Grammar School for Girls.

Our First Charity Ball Raises £12,572

Friday 29th November saw the inaugural Kent Construction Charity Ball, in aid of Donations with a Difference, take place at the Ashford International Hotel. Over 130 from the Kent construction industry and others came together to show their support for the charity whilst enjoying an evening of entertainment, including live music from Magical Motown & Soul and a delicious 3 course meal amidst colleagues and friends. The evening also marked the 5th birthday of Donations with a Difference as a charity and celebrated the life-changing work the charity has undertaken during this time.

Clifford Family Freedom to Go Out Together

There is something very simple most of us take for granted, and that is to be able to step out of our front doors and be able to go out together as a family, pretty much wherever we want to get to. This hasn't been the case for the Clifford family however, as both Aubree and Gunnar have Salla's disease, which means neither will be able to have the strength to walk and are both wheelchair bound. Holly cares for them both 24-7 with her husband Adam and this request came from Holly so that she could gain a family independence while Adam is out at work.

Max's Buggy Brings New-Found Freedom

Max Marshman is 5 years old. He has 4 limb cerebral palsy. He is unable to sit, stand, crawl or walk independently. Max also has feeding problems and is quite an anxious child. Having said that he’s cognitively where he should and wants to be doing everything a little boy his age should be. Max's mum, Jessica, contacted Donations With A Difference to see if we could help because his current wheelchair restricted the activities he could take part in.

Hannah Begins Journey to Achieve Her Dream

As with many of our applicants, Hannah Bullard does not qualify for a non-standard wheelchair on the NHS despite her physiotherapist, occupational therapist and rheumatologist all agreeing that she needed one in order to be able to leave the house independently.

Hannah has a permanent connective tissue disorder, as well as many other health conditions that mean she will require a liver transplant in the future. As it is, she is unable to walk without the use of aids such as crutches inside the house, but relies on a wheelchair being pushed by others to be able to manage outside.

Play Super10 Fantasy Football & Win Cash Prizes

Super10, the charity fantasy football with a difference, is back for the 2019/20 football season. As ever you just need to choose 10 football clubs to score points for you throughout the season. By doing so you can win cash prizes for youself and for a charity of your choice. It's easy to play with no ongoing commitment required - just sit back and watch the points accumulate depending on the performance of your selected teams.

Charity Golf Day Raises £15,671

Our second Donations with a Difference Charity Golf Day may seem a distant memory back on 4th July but, well, Team Chella needed a rest after that, and time to collect in all payments.

With the 4th July theme, Kent's Construction 96 golfers had an amazing day at Canterbury Golf Club.

A New Bed for Archie

After four years in a second-hand cot-style bed, Archie Page, then 6, who suffers from quadriplegic cerebral palsy, had completely outgrown the bed originally provided by the NHS. The more Archie grew the more he was hurting himself on the sides of the cot and getting his limbs caught down the sides. His parents found it more and more difficult to use but as his bed was still deemed 'usable' by the NHS their requests for a replacement were continually declined.

Aubree's Chair and Gunnar's Wheels

Aubree's new wheelchair

Aubree is 6 years old and has Salla Disease which is an incredibly rare metabolic disorder. It is genetic and neurodegenerative, she has two class V gene faults that mean her body does not process a chemical we make naturally called Sialic Acid. It causes a build up in the body’s tissues and is toxic to brain matter so over time it destroys brain and central nervous system tissue.

Jenner 3 Peaks Challenge Changes Lives in South Africa

Before embarking on their two-week aid trip to South Africa in 2018, former Jenner* Contracts Manager Mark Smith and his wife Louise raised funds to support their mission, totalling an impressive, £9,000. A huge part of this sponsorship (over £7k) was raised by Jenner, mainly through their 3 Peaks Challenge, which was facilitated by Donations With A Difference. Without this money the trip, which quite simply ‘changed lives’, could not have taken place. Colleagues and friends also donated six large suitcases full of clothing and other much needed items to take out with them.

Tony's New Mobility Scooter Enables Him to Regain His Freedom

We are delighted to be able to help Tony Hambrook to get more independence and mobility with his new Kymco Maxer Mobility Scooter. It's been a long time in the waiting and we are very appreciative to Deal Mobility for assisting us so swiftly to ensure Tony got a scooter that suited his needs. To quote Tony upon receiving it today, "This scooter is amazing, so quiet, smooth and very good on my back. I cannot thank you guys enough for making my life so much better". This now means Tony can travel around his home town of Deal and make his way to the beach where he likes to sit and look out to sea.

3 Peaks / 24 Hours / 3 Charities: £22,000

When Jenner Group, one of Kent’s largest regionally based Main Contractors, decided to undertake the 3 Peaks Challenge in June 2018, it seemed fitting to support three different charities (one for each peak of course!) through the efforts of a team of 25 colleagues, aiming to conquer all three within a 24-hour window.
