We Love Helping Pam and Action on Homelessness

We love working with Pam Jones and her ‘Action for Homelessness’ cause. What a woman! Recently named as the kindest woman in Kent, it was our privilege to contribute to her Christmas meal night for the homeless in Folkestone. Pam feeds the homeless every week but at Christmas they get a proper fish and chip meal courtesy of streetz 2 streetz mobile fish and chip van.

 

578 Christmas Presents for The Orchard Centre

DWAD recently reached out and made contact with THE GIVING TREE at Bluewater. 

The Giving Tree is back at Bluewater, so while picking up your presents for friends and family in all the great stores, why not grab an extra gift for a child who might not get the Christmas your own loved ones enjoy? You can donate a gift under the Giving Tree at Bluewater from Thursday 9th November right up until Friday 22nd December.

 

2017 Donations With A Difference Christmas Raffle Winner

Congratulations! Phil Hughes from Chestfield was this years lucky winner scooping the top prize of £500. Phil immediately choose to donate £100 of his winnings back to the Donations With A Difference grant fund.

Phil said "I've supported Donations With A Difference for some time, always buying raffle tickets and attending their annual golf event and love the work they do for the people of Kent. I couldn't believe it when I watched the raffle draw video and my number was pulled out as first prize, what a result!"

Layla’s Groundbreaking Robotic Arm Gives Her More Independence

When 13-year-old Layla Brunger from Sittingbourne was one year old, her mum Ann noticed she began to fall over and instinctively knew something wasn’t right. Following tests, Ann was told that Layla was suffering from SMA Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a condition where mobility is impaired through muscle wasting. Her condition deteriorated so much that within two years of diagnosis she needed a wheelchair.

 

Walmer & Kingsdown Golfers Raise £4,605.49 for Donations With A Difference

Donations With A Difference were honoured late last year when the incoming captain at Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club, Brian Wash, chose us as the golf club’s charity of the year.

Through a variety of fundraising events - including a quiz night, raffles, prize draws and the captain's charity match - plus members' generous donations, the club achieved a fantastic sum of £3,934.49 – a record for the club.

Orchards Centre Raises Money for Donations With A Difference

Orchards raises £229 for Donations with a Difference.

On Tuesday 24th October, Orchards in Sittingbourne held a coffee morning to help raise funds for Donations With A Difference that will go directly back into funding mobility equipment for children that could not be funded through the NHS. £229 was raised by selling coffee, a cake stall and receiving additional donations.

 

Previous Winners Reclaim Their Donations With A Difference 5-A-Side Crown

Three-time previous winners Crystal Phallus won the sixth Donations With A Difference charity 5-a-side football tournament at Dover Leisure Centre this afternoon. After a very competitive group stage in which each team played each of the others in a series of keenly contested matches, the top four progressed to the semi-finals.

Saturday 21st October sees the return of Donations With A Difference's highly regarded 5-a-side football tournament at Dover Leisure Centre. Donations With A Difference tournaments are always well run, with proper referees, smooth logistics, and competitive games. With a group stage followed by knock-out rounds, each team is guaranteed to play multiple matches whatever your standard. It costs just £50 for a squad of up to seven players. Plus you get the added bonus of contributing towards the many worthwhile grants made by Donations With A Difference.

VSBW Golf Day Raises Big Money for Donations With A Difference

VSBW, in partnership with Donations With A Difference, held a Charity Golf Day on 7th September 2017 at Chestfield Golf Club and raised a fantastic amount of £7,821.

VSBW are a joint venture between Volker Stevin and Boskalis Westminster. They are the primary contractor for the Marine Structure & Bridge contract with the Port of Dover within the Dover Western Docks Revival programme of works. One of VSBW’s corporate social responsibility objectives is to get involved with the local communities in which they work and help add value to these communities.

Super10 Football Game - Over £1,000 in Cash Prizes

The imminent start of the Premier League football season marks the return of DWAD's charity fantasy football with a difference, Super10. It's simpler and less hassle than traditional fantasy football - you just have to pick 10 clubs (7 from England and 3 European) to score points for you through the season. There's no weekly maintenance required and you can win weekly, monthly and overall cash prizes worth over £1,000. Last season we raised £1,065 for the Kelly Turner appeal. This year all money raised is going to the DWAD grant fund and, as ever, you can win money for a charity of your choice.

Donations With A Difference Challenge 2017 - 3 Peaks Report

At 7am on Friday morning our team departed DWAD HQ in Folkestone headed for Fort William in the Scottish Highlands and the start of our first ever Donations With A Difference Challenge - the daunting National 3 Peaks. With motorway closures and traffic hold-ups it was a much longer journey than anticipated and we didn’t arrive until well over 14 hours later.

Local Nursery Receives New Safer Play Area

Donations With A Difference were pleased to be able to recently assist School House Nursery in Sandwich with a grant to purchase some soft play safety mats to replace some damaged ones and increase their offering to children.

The mats will not only increase the current soft play area but provide the children with a safer environment to learn in.

 

Theo Making Great Progress After Successful Operation

Back in March we told you how 5-year-old Theo Knott from Deal needed to raise £50,000 to pay for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery that would give him the chance to overcome his Cerebal Palsy and walk pain-free. Donations With A Difference were pleased to contribute £1,000 to help Theo and his family towards their goal.

 

Donations With A Difference 2017 Golf Day Nets £10k

What can I say. WOW, what an event! The weather held out, the scores were high, the prizes from POWAKADDY our event sponsor were excellent, the players were well lubricated and the money raised was staggering!

We had a total of 18 teams, including Whitstable Metals x 3, Abbott Construction, Burgess Hodgson, Red Eagle, Site Labour Supplies, Rainbow Greenhouses, Keaveney Contractors, Invent Architecture, ALE Business Supplies, Exchequer Solutions, Runway Training, High Profile, Farrer Barnes, Miller Brickwork, Able Services, Tilmanstone Salads.

 

Walmer & Kingsdown - Captain's Day

Delighted to annouce that Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club held a successful Captain's Day on Sunday 11th June raising additional funds towards DWAD, their captain's chosen chairty for the year.

The event was attended by 108 members of the club and there was lots of fun and games and some serious golf in some windy conditions.

 

9-year-old Govind Rides a Trike for the First Time

Govind Nambier from Crayford was born with Diplegic Cerebral Palsy, which resulted in him having no use of his lower limbs. His condition improved slowly and after an operation when he was five, managed to walk with a Kaye walker frame. Since then, Govind has progressed to walking with normal sticks. He has another 8 operations planned while he is growing, to enable his mobility to improve.

 

Super10 2016/17 - Donations & Winners

The Super10 season has now come to a close. This most recent season of our charity fantasy football game has raised £1,200 plus a further £450 will be donated to the nominated charities of our top 10 finishers.

Those of you placed in the top 10 have enabled the following donations in total: SeeAbility £150, Cancer Research UK £170, Pilgrims Hospices £75, DWAD grant fund £35, and Kelly Turner £20.

Sheppey FM Community Radio Receives Training Grant

Donations With A Difference has provided a grant of £1,450 to help the disadvantaged with training and job opportunities at a new community FM radio station. Radio Sheppey FM Community Radio launched on FM radio (92.2FM) last month after a successful period on Internet radio. They currently have 20 young volunteers, some from local schools seeking work experience, and many will progress to hosting their own shows.

Boost for 5-Year-Old Theo’s Mission to Walk

Theo’s ‘Mission To Walk’ fundraising campaign has been live for 7 weeks and has already raised over £24,000. Theo is a 5-year-old boy from Deal wanting the chance to live a pain free life. Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy is a spinal operation that will benefit Theo hugely by removing all spasticity (stiffness) in his body.

Join our 3 Peaks Expedition and Raise Funds for DWAD

On Saturday 8th July, Donations With A Difference will be embarking on its most challenging fundraising event to date. Our team will attempt to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge. This entails summiting the highest mountain in each of Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours or less. This will be a sponsored event to raise money for the DWAD Grant Fund.

Quality of Life Improves for Local Lad Adam

17-year-old Adam Bassett from Sheerness was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. He attends the Orchards Centre in Sittingbourne - a multi-agency specialist hub that helps disabled children and their families. His mum Sally said, “Adam stopped walking when he was 12 years old and since then he either sat on the sofa or his bed.” Staff at the Orchards Centre felt Adam’s mobility and quality of life would improve with a bespoke electric armchair and arranged for a manufacturer to visit Adam and measure him for a chair. Unfortunately when the cost was presented to the NHS board it was rejected.

 

Air Ambulance Benefits from a Very Charitable Gesture

Winner of the £1,000 top prize in Donations With A Difference annual raffle was Michael Keaveney, from Keaveney Contractors based in Ashford.

A surprised Michael said, “We are always happy to support DWAD but never expected to win the top prize in their annual raffle. Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance is another deserving charity and one we like to support – we thought it would be fitting if they could benefit from our win.”
