Donations with a Difference Trustee Ella Brocklebank was delighted to meet the Bowen family following approval of their request for grant-funding in December 2019, resulting in “simply the best Christmas present anyone could have got us!”
Their request was to provide daughter Lucy, who is unable to walk, with a new Delichon Buggy which would offer the freedom to explore the great outdoors that a standard wheelchair simply could not. Lucy was born with a unique and incredibly rare genetic condition, which she was diagnosed with shortly after birth, leaving her severely disabled with complex medical needs including epilepsy. To the Bowens, as an active family who love being outside, this new-found freedom was simply priceless said Lucy’s Mum Samantha:
“The difference this buggy makes to our lives is immeasurable….thank you so much again for your generosity, empathy and understanding. Your help means the world to us”
The buggy has proved even more essential to the family’s wellbeing during lockdown imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic allowing them direct access to the countryside and a much needed change of scenery, exercise and fresh air. The Delichon buggy is light to push allowing the family to explore off-road for miles and miles.
Lucy had outgrown her previous ‘shop-brought’ buggy many years ago and funding from the NHS was not an option with equipment if this nature considered ‘luxury’ and ‘non-essential’.
The improvement to the quality of life for Craig, Samantha and Lucy that funding this equipment has achieved is exactly why we do what we do at Donations with a Difference.
