When Cheryl Causebrook and Ella Brocklebank joined Donations with a Difference in December 2017 they knew they would be able to use their Kent connections to raise funds for great new projects.
Cheryl and fellow trustee Will Chan met Garry Ratcliffe in January, one of the BBC's DIYSOS dads from the massive knock down and rebuild on the Isle of Sheppey, and he spoke about their family's wish for Curtis, their 7-year-old, to have a head-operated power chair so he would be able to have his own independence for the first time in his life. They needed to raise £20,000 to purchase the chair. They had started their fundraising and had managed to raise £5,000 over two years.
So with this in mind, Cheryl and Ella decided that a great idea to raise circa £8k for Curtis' chair would be to host a golf day for their colleagues in the Kent construction network.
On a beautifully sunny day, 26 (yes you read that correctly) teams entered the fray at Canterbury Golf Club and had a wonderful day of networking, fun, laughter and golf. With breakfast networking, a shotgun start, halfway house, beer buggies, dinner and lots of raffle and auction prizes, a staggering £12,439.82 was raised to go towards the cause.
Many many thanks to all the construction businesses in Kent that helped to make the day a super success and with the fantastic comments on the day, everyone wanted to know the dates for next year.
So watch this space and save the date for 4th July 2019 for the next Kent Construction Charity Golf Day. Roger Hyder, general manager of Canterbury Golf Club, this is your 10-month warning!
